skardu: s a city located in Pakistan administered Gilgit-Baltistan in the disputed Kashmir region. Skardu serves as the capital of Skardu District and the Baltistan Division. It is situated at an average elevation of nearly 2,500 metres (8,202 feet) above sea level in the Skardu Valley, at the confluence of the Indus and Shigar rivers. It is an important gateway to the eight-thousanders of the nearby Karakoram mountain range. The Indus River running through the region separates the Karakoram from the Ladakh Range
The Skardu Valley, at the confluence of the Indus and Shigar Rivers, is 10 kilometres (6 miles) wide by 40 kilometres (25 miles) long. deosai: Treks to the Deosai National Park and the Deosai Plains, the second highest in the world at 4,114 metres (13,497 ft) above sea level, after the Chang Tang in Tibet, either start from or end at Skardu. In the local Balti language, Deosai is called Byarsa meaning ‘summer place’. With an area of approximately 3,000 square kilometres (1,158 sq mi), the plains extend all the way to Ladakh and provide a habitat for snow leopards, ibex, Tibetan blue bears and wild horses.

6 Days SKARDU AND DEOSAI Trip Overview
- Wildlife
The park is home to a variety of species, including Tibetan wolves, Himalayan ibex, Tibetan red foxes, and golden marmots. The park’s waters are home to large snow trout.
- Best time to visit
The best time to visit the park is towards the end of July, when the wildflower bloom is at its peak. However, you should be prepared for lots of mosquitos in the summer.
- Access
The park is accessible from Skardu through a wide road, or from Astore side through a black top road with some dirt.
- Camping
There are no permanent hotels on the Deosai, but you can pitch your own tent or stay in a tent hotel.
